Tel Aviv, Israel
"Yawn," The girl gets out of the airport security before making her way to luggage pick up. She was now in a foreign country and thousands miles of away from the security of the U.S. of A.
Well, her brain as exactly thinking right due to she slept all the way on the plane before she got woken up by a stewardess telling her the plane was about to land.
Nothing went wrong.
Thankfully.
"Ah...what time is it?" She had to leave when it would be daylight in Israel.
Stupid time change...great...I think I feel the jet lag coming on.
She had to leave at 2:00 in the morning to arrive at 8:00 in the morning. There her ride would pick her up to take her to the university first hand.
She yawns again.
She was not a morning person.
She looks at her watch then sudden changes it to match the time flow in Israel. After that, she takes out her cellphone and does the same thing.
"Great...I just realize I don't have a charger with a plug in here. Great...why didn't I think of that?"
"It's like I went forward in time." She rubs the back of her neck. She finally sits down on a bench for a bit before getting up again and looking for ride.
When she finally gets down some stairs, she looks ahead to see soldier holding up a sign with her name on it. Her eyes bugged out when the soldier approaches her, "Miss Alanna Deighton?"
"Uh, I didn't do it?" She wasn't sure how to react.
"Oh, you mean the..." He starts laughing, "I am so sorry if I scared you. It's mandatory." "Oh, I was going to say...I'm already in the country and I get into trouble without doing anything...great."
"It's alright. No, it's to scare off anyone who would want to...
"Yeah yeah, I got it! Don't fill me with in with the images. I get enough on TV and Internet." Alanna shivers.
The soldier quickly helps Alanna with her bags and takes her out to the jeep. He takes her straight to the university.
"First time in Israel?" He asks.
"First time out of the country, yes." She laughs, digging out her sunglasses. The sun was up and glaring.
"I'm Reuven. You'll like it here...even if you'll be here for only a while."
"I'm guessing you know the professor?"
"Yes, he is a friend of my grandfather's. I met him more than once on occasion. He's a sweet old man. Very intelligent. You're lucky to get this scholarship. To come here to study."
"I'm not lucky. I'm blessed. Very much blessed."
They finally get there while passing through the streets of Tel Aviv. Alanna's eyes widen and fill with curiosity at everything around her. There was a mix of modernism and ancient tradition floating everywhere.
"Remind me to try, what is it that you call it? The Israel Hamburger?"
"Ah, you mean the falfah. Yes, you should. It's actually quite tasty even if you're use to the American burgers."
"You like McDonalds, don't you?"
"Any chance I get to sneak out and grab one."
"Haha."
"So? Do you live in here in Tel Aviv?"
"Yes I do, but my family's more towards Judah. I have family near Jerusalem. It's actually quite nice. Not quite in the city but close. You know what I mean?"
"I think so."
"You will like it here."
"I'm already beginning to," Alanna breathes in the air.
She was finally in a place she thought she never go to.
The Holy Land.
